URGENT NEWS
City of Madison Budget Cuts 12/05/24
In December the Madison Committee on Aging submitted their funding recommendations for the 2025 City of Madison budget to the Common Council. Their recommendations included $400,000 for NewBridge, a 36% cut in funding. On January 14 the Madison Common Council approved the committee’s recommendations in the 2025 older adult services budget. The result is NewBridge has to make up for a $227,970 loss in funding this year for programs and services to remain the same.
Older adult activities was cut by $138,887. This means the elimination of foot care clinics and hundreds of health and wellness programs, exercise classes, educational presentations and recreational opportunities.
Case management services was cut by $52,394. This means 80-100 older adults facing critical issues like housing, food insecurity, transportation and other types of assistance will go unserved or put on a waitlist.
Home Chore/Food Bridge was cut by $20,563. This means 25-30 less individuals won’t be able to access these services.
Volunteer Guardian/Representative Payee Program was cut by $16,125. This means 33 older adults will lose access to help them make critical financial and medical decisions.
NewBridge is in urgent need of funding to make up for this major deficit. Any financial support from individuals, businesses, and foundations would be greatly appreciated so we can continue to provide critical services and support for older adults in the community. Imagine a world where every older adult is well fed, has a place to live, has access to affordable health care, and does not live in isolation.
On January 1, 2019, NewBridge officially came into existence as a non-profit organization serving older adults in Madison and Monona. While a new organization, we have a long history of service. Each of the Senior Coalitions has provided service for over 45 years. Our mission is to provide older adults a bridge to successful aging. To ensure longer, healthier, and safer independent lives, NewBridge provides a variety of services and activities for older adults.
